Makhaya Design

Overview

During an internship at an Ottawa design agency, I worked on a project for a client who needed a logo and brand identity for her interior design store called Makhaya Design. She envisioned a clean, Bauhaus-inspired, post-modern, and industrial aesthetic.

Objectives

  • Create a logo that embodies the clean, Bauhaus style while reflecting a post-modern and industrial feel.
  • Develop a comprehensive brand identity including colors, fonts, and other graphic elements.

Approach

Following the client’s brief, I began by exploring various sources of inspiration, creating mood boards, and sketching numerous concepts. From these explorations, I refined my ideas into two final logo concepts. Collaborating closely with an art director, I further developed and polished these concepts to prepare them for client presentation.

The chosen logo features an "M" for Makhaya, designed to be linear and minimalist. Starting with a simple "M" enclosed in a box, I extended its lines to create a more dynamic and engaging shape. This grid-based approach not only defines the logo but also serves as a versatile foundation for creating additional graphic elements that unify the brand’s visual identity.

This set the stage for further brand development, where these graphic elements are integrated across various touchpoints to create a cohesive and visually impactful brand presence for Makhaya Design.
